The group is encouraged by the number of people willing to put in a day’s work for a good cause, but financial donations and volunteers are both welcome and needed. In this project, Morris community members have teamed with UMM students, staff, and faculty to develop a Stevens County Habitat for Humanity chapter and accomplish a number of initiatives. Together, they have publicized public meetings, they have held fundraisers, and they have established a Habitat Selection Committee, which recently selected the family of Josh and Marianne Backman to be the homeowners of the first Morris Area Habitat House. Ground was broken on June 1, 2006, and the group is enthusiastically working with many partners to finish the project in a timely manner.
