Cooperative housing is becoming more and more common in communities across the upper Midwest, particularly those with universities. It provides occupants an opportunity to capture the appreciation of multi-family housing values for themselves, while sharing the costs of construction and annual operations. In Morris, short-term rental situations for students and faculty of UMM are difficult, given the availability and condition of housing units. This outreach activity will provide a vehicle whereby local community leaders can explore housing cooperatives in nearby communities and plan for cooperative development in Morris.
